In 2021, I drove the length of the U.S.-Mexico border, recording this series of landscapes. Hewing as close to the boundary as navigable roads would allow, I traced a path that geospatially intersected the path of every person who has passed through these spaces. The experience was shocking — the conditions more inhumane than I could have ever imagined, the landscape more alien. It’s impossible to fully convey the region’s desolation, its omnipresent dangers, and its quiet beauty.
